"So: how did you get here?"

Co-Designing Meaningful Access, Inclusion, and Outreach for the Next Generation of HCI Researchers

As members of the CHI community, our presence implies that some effort successfully facilitated our involvement in the HCI research space. This carries with it great power, and responsibility.

We invite anyone interested in improving access, diversity, inclusion, and outreach initiatives for future generations of HCI researchers.

Emerging researchers, especially from unconventional backgrounds or impacted by accessibility, diversity, or inclusion initiatives are encouraged to apply. We also encourage researchers from privileged backgrounds to attend and engage in learning from and amplifying marginalized voices and perspectives.

This interactive, one-day hybrid workshop will consist of lightning talks and collaborative activities investigating how individuals become aware of, involved in, and empowered by Human-Computer Interaction and human-centered design and technology research, with two main objectives: (1) Identifying characteristics of effective access, inclusion, and outreach initiatives and (2) Investigating HCI as a tool for emancipation.
